Yogyakarta – The Physics Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta recently wrapped up an important milestone: an On-Site Visit (OSV) for international accreditation by ASIIN, a respected accreditation agency from Germany. Held on February 19–20, 2025, the visit was part of Cluster B, which includes both the Mathematics and Physics programs at the university.
This visit is a big step forward in UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s efforts to boost academic quality and global recognition. As Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan explained, "This accreditation is more than just a badge of honor—it’s a strategic move to strengthen our global competitiveness."
The evaluation was led by a team of experts from top institutions, including Universität Paderborn, Universität Würzburg, STIS, ITS, and Universitas Jember. Among them were Dr. Natalia Vega (ASIIN Project Manager), Prof. Dr. Arno Schindlmayr, Prof. Dr. Hans-Georg Weigand, Prof. Setia Permana, and Dr. M. Taufiqi.
In preparation for the visit, the Physics Study Program undertook a comprehensive review of its academic system, aligned with international standards like Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Faculty, staff, and students came together to ensure everything—from documentation to classroom experience—was ready for evaluation.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Istiningsih, highlighted how the process was about more than ticking boxes. “It’s not just about passing the evaluation. It’s about building a strong academic culture that lasts,” she said.
To support the assessment, the program invited a well-rounded group for interviews: five alumni, eight industry stakeholders, and student representatives from each year. These sessions gave assessors valuable insight into how the curriculum connects with real-world applications and career paths. The assessors also met with the study program head, vice head, and five lecturers to understand the teaching and learning processes more deeply.
Beyond the people, the university has also invested in infrastructure—upgrading labs, improving academic management systems, and strengthening learning facilities—to ensure that the environment supports a high-quality education.
With solid preparation and strong collaboration across the board, UIN Sunan Kalijaga is hopeful for a positive outcome from ASIIN. More than just improving rankings, the university sees this as a way to better prepare students and graduates to compete and succeed on a global stage.
