Guest Lecture on Pendulum Behavior and Waves Using Mathematica

Yogyakarta, 17 November 2025 — The Physics Department of UIN Sunan Kalijaga hosted a Guest Lecture Prof Axel Killian from Senior Experten Service (SES) as part of the Algorithm and Programming course, guided by Dr. Thaqibul Fikri Niryatama. The session focused on pendulum behavior and wave phenomena, with demonstrations implemented using Mathematica software.

During the lecture, students were introduced to the mathematical modeling of pendulum motion, including both simple and nonlinear dynamics. Dr. Niryatama demonstrated how Mathematica can be used to simulate oscillatory behavior, visualize phase space, and analyze the impact of varying physical parameters. The session also expanded into wave concepts, illustrating how wave equations, interference patterns, and oscillation modes can be explored computationally.

Students participated actively throughout the class, engaging in discussions and asking questions about both the physics concepts and their computational implementation. The interactive use of Mathematica provided students with practical insights into algorithmic thinking, numerical simulations, and the power of computational tools in analyzing physical systems.

This guest lecture enriched the learning experience within the Physics program and highlighted the importance of integrating programming skills into modern physics education.
