Description THIS COURSE IS A PRIMARY PHYSICS COURSE THAT EQUIPS STUDENTS WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF STATISTICAL APPROACHES NEEDED TO EXPLAIN VARIOUS PHENOMENA IN NATURE, BOTH MICROSCOPIC AND MACROSCOPIC. THE STATISTICAL APPROACH TAKEN FOLLOWS THE CLASSIFICATION OF PARTICLES IN NATURE WHICH FOLLOWS DIFFERENT DISTRIBUTION FUNCTIONS, NAMELY BOSE-EINSTEIN, FERMI-DIRAC, AND MAXWELL-BOLTZMANN. DERIVATION OF THERMODYNAMIC QUANTITIES AND THE APPLICATION OF EACH DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL IN THIS LECTURE.
